SAP Beratung - Anfangszeit Überforderung/Stress und Start im Support?
Hallo zusammen,

Before I explain things, please note that this is exclusively my personal opinion and based on my life experiences so no one is advised to follow it blindly. The story below might give insight to people, to dig in more before choosing SAP career. SAP itself is great platform but only for experienced people and lucky ones and it is still the market leader in ERP segment and will remain so for many years. Anyone who wishes to get in SAP, please do it, if you are lucky and hard working, you will have a great career.
About me- was engineer in manufacturing plant(worked for 5+ years), switched to SAP and got job after so much struggle, did projects but left it after 2 years because it didnt make any sense to me.
Most of the people dont even know the reality of SAP career, what actually are pros and cons, most of the time there is no proper guidance and that leads to a miserable life.
Why people choose SAP?
1.Huge number of people working in manufacturing industries(chemical plants, automobile, steel plants etc) have a very tough profile. For eg in case of maintenance engineer, job can be too demanding, physical , no entertainment and tremendous pressure to keep machines running. Now the engineers who entered in core fields now after few years(or many years) when see that friends are having coolest of job as a techie(which ofcourse is not), think of alternate solution. They look for fields where they can migrate to leaving behind all the years of expereicne in a plant.
2.Thinking that they will get much high package than current job and salary
3.They will have a relatively less stressful life
4.They will have a great career ahead
5.They will travel lot of countries
6.They will end up in gulf earning millions of Rupees
7.Its easy to get in SAP at any stage, simply get certificate and job is secured.
8.They will actually work on cool software showing creativity
What is the actual truth?
1.People leave current job to look for better options in SAP but everything is a dream and it simply makes life miserable.
2.SAP certificate is shit. Dont do it, ever. You will spend 4 lacs minimum and end up getting a certificate but what happens after that? After the certificate, your institution takes your cv and assure you that they are forwarding it to companies. You wait and wait but nothing happens...because there are actually no placements. The reason? SAP certificate course is shit which contains 4 books to read. Actual SAP implementation and other SAP work is way beyond what they teach u at SAP. Do you really think a course in 20 days can get u a job of 10 lacs in a jiffy? SAP is a highly complex job and requires deep skills. No person can enter in SAP without prior SAP experience.
3.If you are lucky and read some practical stuff, u get a job but in a 3 tier company. Starting package can be as low as 1.4 lacs. Even after that, the package is not great in SAP, Its normal unless u work abroad.
4.What is SAP job profile? There are two options- to work on new implementation project or to solve issues in already implemented project(support). Now the reality, most of the big companies have got Sap implemented. Small companies can not afford such expensive software. Only few middle level companies are implementing projects or if there is any extension in plant unit, there is a roll over project. That means, only support job is left which is basically maintenance job. There is an issue in client side and you have to solve it. Irony is, without implementation you can not learn anything and companies wont put u on project unless u know something.
5.Stress is the core of SAP career. If you get a implementation project, from day one you are in a grind hole. Project has a deadline, normally few months and day to day basis progress and performance is judges. Go-Live time is like hell, u work day and night to ensure that there is no problem on client side. If u have support project, its also rubbish. U get issues from client side and u have to solve it within a time frame. If problem is severe, u have to solve it in an hour or 2, so if u are less experienced or fresher, u are doomed.
6.If enduring so much still makes u happy then traveling and shitty time schedule will kill you. Suppose u become a good consultant and company send u places to places, initially u might enjoy but afterwards it will be like hell. U travel to one place for 3 months then to other project for 2 months then to some other project for 5 months. Now if you are in india then u are screwed because SAP is implemented in manufacturing plants which are far from cities so u basically live in remotest of areas, like armymen.
